Microgrid Conference in São Paulo

Two members of the SHINE team, Professor Wilson Macêdo and Dr Sam Williamson, presented at the conference Smart Minigrids applied to Isolated and Interconnected Systems, at the University of São Paulo on the 7th February. Wilson discussed their group’s experience in implementing direct current minigrids in the Amazon region, whilst Sam discussed the challenges and opportunities minigrids face on their integration into the interconnected power grid.

Prior to the conference, Sam spent time with Wilson and the research team at GEDAE visiting field sites in Pacoca and Onças Islands to learn more about the minigrid technology developed by GEDAE, and its impact on the local communities.
